Types of Depression

Depression is a disease that takes many different forms. Some types of depression are more severe than others consequently different regiments of treatment are warranted. And because depressive disorders come in many different types and forms, there is a myriad of signs and symptoms of depression.

The more common forms of depression are:

• Clinical depression / major depression

• Teenage depression / teen depression

• Manic depression / bipolar depression

• Seasonal affective disorder (SAD)

• Dysthymia

• Cyclothemia

• Mood disorder /mood disturbance

• Post partum depression

• Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression

• Sadness is not depression

If you, a friend or a loved one has experienced a bout with depression it is likely that there will be repeat episodes within a 3 year period of time and those episodes can increase in severity if left untreated. So, therefore, it is important to seek treatment prior to the depressive disorder becoming chronic.

Through years of productive research there are treatment options for all levels of depression from the most severe to the mild forms. The treatment choices range from medications to psychosocial therapies such as cognitive therapy, interpersonal, and traditional therapies that will ease the pain and suffering plaguing those individuals who suffer from depression.
